Coming Home
Mommy cat looked lovingly at her kittens, even though they were now all grown up. They’d had many adventures throughout the years. Some homes had been fantastic, but the humans less so. They’d even spent a few months living in the wild until they were trapped by some caring humans.
That gave them two more years of living in a pet shelter until a loving senior couple adopted them. What fun they had in their big old house!
Her two daughters and son still loved to play well into their adult years. Even Mommy wasn’t that much older than they were, barely being out of kittenhood before she’d met that handsome tom cat.
Mommy watched them finish up on their play before they settled down for a nap. Yet, Mommy was a bit sad. Why so much upheaval in their lives? She'd watched what the humans called a TV, and cats on there stayed with the same family for their entire lives. But their last set of humans had been old and passed away.
Yet here she was, back at the animal shelter again. But at least she was with her family. The nice human at the shelter had said something about them being adopted out as a family, rather than separating them. Mommy briefly thought about another kitten, and hoped that they had found a wonderful furever home.
The door to the animal shelter opened. Some cats lifted up their heads, eagerly hoping they’d be the ones to be picked. Other cats fled under tables and chairs. They liked it at the shelter.
A young woman walked in. Mommy raised her face and sniffed. She smelled delicious, like an entire dinner, with shortbread for dessert. Another man followed behind her.
Mommy cat stared at the chef the entire time. She watched as the couple pet and played with all the kitties. Some sat on their laps, while some swatted at the ribbon toys they dangled in front of them.
Mommy cat did not approach. She didn’t want to get their hopes up, or worse, be split from her kittens.
Then the chef girlfriend walked her way. Mommy glanced smugly up at the woman and smiled in her catlike manner. The woman reached out a hand and gently stroked her.
“That’s the sweetest cat in the shelter,” said the volunteer. “She comes with three kittens, all grown up of course, two girls and a boy.”
“She is so sweet,” said the chef. “What do you think?” she asked her boyfriend.
“I think she’s chosen you. She has been staring at you the entire time we’ve been at the shelter.”
The four cats were settled into their cat carriers. Soon they were headed out on an adventure in a car.
Mommy cat soothed her kittens. They were so nervous!
Soon the cats were inside their new home. The chef girlfriend and her boyfriend opened up the carriers.
The kitties raced all over their new home. It had been nine years since the kittens had been born.
The cats ate well and enjoyed playing together for hours each day before settling down for their daily naps. The process was repeated each day.
The chef girlfriend and her boyfriend loved this charismatic group.
“See, told you we should adopt some older cats who needed a good home,” said the boyfriend.
“Our best decision ever!” replied the chef, giving Mommy a piece of steak.
The End.
